Getting Around in Saudi Arabia

Most UK pilgrims fly into Jeddah for Makkah or into Madinah, and many itineraries fly into one city and out of the other so no journey is repeated.

The Haramain railway links Makkah, Jeddah city, Jeddah airport, KAEC and Madinah along a 449 km line, with trains running at up to 300 km/h. It is comfortable, air-conditioned and considerably faster than the road.

The Makkah to Madinah road journey takes roughly four to five hours by coach. Private transfers and group coaches are the usual arrangement on packages, and taxis and ride-hailing apps are widely available within both cities.
