Read this before you start

Most rejected applications come down to the same handful of details — the wrong passport type, a PDF upload, or a photo that will not pass. Five minutes here saves an afternoon of retries.

Before you apply

UK passport holders only

The ETA is for British citizens holding a full UK passport. If you hold a UK residence permit or a non-British passport, you need the standard tourist e-Visa or an Umrah visa instead — not the ETA.

Passport scan format

Upload the passport photo page as a JPG or PNG. PDFs are rejected by the portal. If a phone camera photo will not upload, resize it to roughly 1500 × 1000 pixels and try again.

Personal photo

A standard passport-style headshot (35mm × 45mm ratio) on a plain white background, under 5 MB. If the system rejects it, re-export a clean, compressed PNG or JPG using Canva or a background remover.

Travel and medical insurance is separate

Unlike the £100+ standard tourist visa, the ETA does not include health cover. Medical treatment and ambulances in Saudi Arabia are expensive for visitors, so buy standalone travel health insurance before you fly.

Card for the fee

Pay the $25 USD fee with a multi-currency card such as Revolut or Monzo to avoid your bank's foreign exchange surcharges.

The application, step by step

1

Access the official government portal

  • Go to ksavisa.sa/explore-visa-options, open the 'Other' card and select 'Electronic Travel Authorization', then create an account or log in.
  • Beware of unofficial third-party visa agencies — they charge two to four times more for the same authorisation.
  • The site can occasionally glitch or log you out. If that happens, go back to the homepage and reopen the ETA section.

2

Trip and arrival details

  • Enter your travel details, including your expected date of arrival, port of entry and how long you plan to stay.
  • Important: the one-year validity of your ETA starts from the expected arrival date you enter here, not from the day it is issued.

3

Perform Umrah declaration

  • Look for the question 'Do you want to perform Umrah?' and select Yes.
  • General government promotion does not always mention Umrah for the ETA, but this option in the form confirms that British ETA holders are permitted to perform Umrah.

4

Upload your passport and photograph

  • Upload your headshot — white background, standard passport framing.
  • Upload your passport photo page as a JPG or PNG. Do not upload a PDF.
  • If the upload spinner hangs, resize the image to around 1500px wide and export it as a PNG.

5

Security questionnaire and declaration

  • Answer the standard security and legal questions covering convictions, previous travel violations and smuggling.
  • Accept the terms and conditions, then read through your summary carefully before submitting — check every name, date and passport number.

Payment and instant issuance

  • Pay the $25 USD fee by credit or debit card.
  • Once payment goes through, your ETA confirmation and PDF document arrive by email, usually within 3–5 minutes.
  • Save the PDF to your phone and print a copy to carry with your passport.

The screens shown above are simplified illustrations of the application flow, not official screenshots, and the portal is updated from time to time. Simple Umrah is not affiliated with the Saudi government and does not charge for the ETA — always apply on the official site and check the current requirements before you travel.

Common questions

Can I perform Umrah on a Saudi ETA?

Yes. British passport holders can perform Umrah on an Electronic Travel Authorisation. The application form itself asks whether you intend to perform Umrah — select Yes.

Can I perform Hajj on a Saudi ETA?

No. Hajj cannot be performed on an ETA. Hajj requires a dedicated Hajj visa arranged through an approved operator.

How much does the Saudi ETA cost?

The fee is $25 USD, roughly £20. Using a multi-currency card such as Revolut or Monzo avoids bank foreign exchange charges.

How long does the Saudi ETA take?

Most applications are approved and emailed as a PDF within 3 to 5 minutes of payment.

How long is the Saudi ETA valid for?

One year of multiple entries, with stays of up to 180 days, counted from the expected arrival date you entered on the form.

Does the ETA include medical insurance?

No. Unlike the standard tourist visa, the ETA does not include health cover, so you must buy separate travel and medical insurance before you travel.

I hold a UK residence permit, not a British passport. Can I apply?

No. The ETA is only for full British passport holders. You would apply for the standard tourist e-Visa or an Umrah visa instead — we can arrange the correct visa for your nationality.

Not a British passport holder?

We obtain visas for different nationalities and include the correct visa in your package price. Send us a message and we will tell you exactly what you need.
