UK health authorities have urged Hajj and Umrah pilgrims to make sure their meningitis vaccination is up to date. Saudi health regulations for Umrah, published each year, set out meningococcal ACWY requirements and any polio or seasonal flu recommendations that apply to travellers from particular countries.

The Haram is busy and warm. Drink Zamzam and water regularly, rest between prayers rather than pushing through, carry hand sanitiser, and use a face covering if you are prone to picking up coughs in crowds.

Bring enough of any regular medication for the whole trip plus a few extra days, in its original packaging.
