Madinah Guide for Umrah Travellers

Visiting Masjid an-Nabawi, choosing where to stay and the sites nearby.

Masjid an-Nabawi

Madinah is known for its calm. The vast marble courtyards, the shade umbrellas and the unhurried pace make it, for many travellers, the most peaceful part of the journey.

Access to the Rawdah is by free timed permit through the Nusuk app, with separate slots for men and women.

Where to stay

Hotels sit on all four sides of the mosque and each side has its own character. The northern side is convenient for women's access to the Rawdah; the western side has newer hotels and wide pedestrian boulevards; the southern and eastern sides tend to offer better value and remain within a comfortable walk.

Nearby sites

Ziyarah in Madinah usually includes Masjid Quba, Masjid al-Qiblatain, Mount Uhud and the Seven Mosques, with many groups also stopping at local date farms.
